Order of Interbeing Retreat: Beautiful Practice, Beautiful Continuation

FriendsOnPath_2832 (1).jpg

When you look at an orange tree, you see that the orange tree is producing beautiful green leaves, fragrant orange blossoms, and sweet oranges. Those are the things an orange tree has to offer to the world. A human being is like that too. In her daily life she produces thoughts, speech, and actions. Our thoughts may be beautiful, compassionate, and loving. Our speech may also be compassionate, inspiring, full of love and understanding. And our actions may also be compassionate, protecting, healing, and supporting others and ourselves. Looking deeply in the present moment we can see that we're producing thoughts, speech, and actions. In the Buddhist tradition, our thoughts, our speech and our actions are our true continuation.  -- by Thich Nhat Hanh from  Answers from the Heart

This is our annual retreat for Order of Interbeing members and formal OI aspirants. The Order of Interbeing is a community of monastics and lay people who have committed to living their lives in accord with the Fourteen Mindfulness Trainings. This five-day retreat is a chance for OI members and aspirants, both monastic and lay, to strengthen our practice, deepen our connection as a community, and explore ways to nurture and strengthen our aspiration to live beautifully and mindfully in the spirit of togetherness.

Note: An aspirant must have already begun his or her aspirancy and must have a current OI mentor who is an ordained Dharma teacher.

The Four Principles of the Order of Interbeing, a dharma talk by Br. Phap Dung, 9-30-2018 on the genesis of the Order and the Four Pillars.

Join us as we celebrate the Buddha's Continuation Day on May 19, 2019.

Siddhartha, or Buddha Shakyamuni, was an enlightened being whose teachings have helped millions of people touch the peace, love and understanding inherent in each of us.  In celebration and  remembrance of the Buddha, we will practice mindfulness together as a sangha, or community, seeing that the Buddha is still very much alive, here and now.

You are welcome to join us for the weekend, arriving Friday afternoon, May 17 in time for our 6 pm dinner and 7:30 pm orientation.  This weekend is offered to our guests on a donation basis.  Everyone is welcome to join us for the Day of Mindfulness on Sunday, May 19th. There is no need to register for the day visit. If you wish to stay overnight, please register.

Summer Family Retreat 2019

FamilyRetreat2018-peace.jpg

Join us for our joyful annual retreat celebrating our blood and spiritual family.

We come together to play, to practice, to share, to sing. We offer children and teens tools for handling strong emotions, peer pressure, and expectations from parents and teachers. We offer adults mindfulness practices to enrich and deepen the bonds between partners, spouses, siblings, and friends, and between parent and child. We learn how to touch the peace and joy of the present moment, and to nurture the best gift we can offer those we love ---our presence.

Together we will practice: walking, eating, and sitting meditation; loving speech and deep listening; touching the earth, deep relaxation, ceremonies and celebration.

We also love music, so please bring your instruments!

Here is a song to enjoy, Six Mantras song

Projected registration opening date: May 9, 2019

Holiday Retreat

Holiday Retreat

The Earth turns. The seasons change. Time is not bound in any framework, yet, still we have deep gratitude to our ancestors who framed time in days, months, and years so that, now, we have an opportunity at the end of each year to look bakc: at the things that we have done or have not yet done, at the streams of mind, body and events that have shaped our being and our relationships.

This Holiday Retreat is a wonderful opportunity for ourselves and our loved ones to practice deep and honest reflection, generating peace and quieting the mind so that we may bring into light what is good, true, and beautiful in us.

May we and all beings let go of the burdens we carry.
May we and all beings live light and free.

As our annual Holiday Retreat continues to grow in families and friends, we also offer a children's program for our young ones to share in the practice of and having fun. Join us!

Retreat costs are for the entire retreat and include all meals:
Employed Adults:                                                                 $440-$240 sliding scale
Students (18-27)/Seniors (over 65)/Unemployed:              $320-$160  sliding scale
*Commuter:                                                                          $320-$160  sliding scale
